Joystick for PC
Joystick is a tool like a stick that moves the cursor according to the direction of motion of the joystick. This tool is typically used to run programs or play games on the computer.
History of Joystick
- In 1926, C. B. Mirick at the United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) invented and patented the electrical two-axis joystick. NRL was actively developing remote controlled aircraft at the time and the joystick was possibly used to support this effort.
- Around 1944, The Germans developed an electrical two-axis joystick. The device was used to control the missile.
- In the 1960s the use of joysticks became widespread in radio-controlled model aircraft systems such as the Kwik Fly produced by Phill Kraft (1964).
- In 1963, the Permobil use of joysticks outside the radio-controlled aircraft industry may have been in the control of powered wheelchairs. During this time period NASA used joysticks as control devices as part of the Apollo missions. For example, the lunar lander test models were controlled with a joystick.
- From the 1980s, the joystick has used for flight control in the form of a side-stick, a controller similar to a gaming joystick but which is used to control the flight, replacing the traditional yoke. The sidestick saves weight, improves movement and visibility in the cockpit, and may be safer in an accident than the traditional control yoke.
Type of Joystick
- Digital Joystick. Digital joystick also called "Atari-style" digital joystick, since it were first implemented with the Atari 2600 video game system. That device is used for simple left, right, up, down and firing commands.
- Paddle Joystick. This is one of the oldest joysticks, as it was first introduced with the very first home video game consoles. Paddle joystick consist of one knob used to control the game and one firing button.
- Analog Joystick. Analog joystick also called thumbstick combine the digital and paddle joysticks. That device control the game like a digital joystick, and use potentiometers to measure the movements like the paddle joysticks. This device is used for three-dimensional input for a controller (game controller).
